 What I've done

  1. Humber College Logo

    Instructional Design Consultant

The Business School at Humber College needed its online courses to comply with Quality Matters standards. Using Universal Design techniques, I created branded and visually distinct templates that focused on task-oriented, learner-centred activity. At the same time, I trained faculty on AODA, copyright, rapid course development, and Universal Design techniques to address Blackboard LMS issues.

  2. Economical Insurance Logo

    Instructional Design Consultant

Economical needed training collateral for its new case management system on the Service Now platform. New processes were being developed for the underwriting, filing, routing and approval of new policies across a system distributed by geography and brand. Tracing these developments, I translated process maps into facilitator guides, participant workbooks, and job aids for instructor-led and blended learning delivery.

  3. Centennial College Logo

    Instructional Design Consultant

The Business School at Centennial College needed to redesign the delivery of an entry-level business course with 22 sections. I redesigned the course into a blended format that used technology more effectively and increased personalized attention with just four sections. Interactive evaluation methods were used to collect quantitative and qualitative (mixed-measures) data that demonstrated the results.

  4. Morguard Investments Logo

    Contract Content Developer

The Human Resources department at Morguard needed to document its operational processes for organizational training. After assessing the documentation and eLearning needs, I developed scenarios, presentations, and scripts for ILT and VILT courses. To enhance the new content development process, I wrote new templates and a house style guide.

  5. University of Guelph at Humber Logo

    Contract Professor—Web Design

The media studies department needed an instructor to teach students how to hand-code web pages. Using HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript, I taught students to create a custom web site with responsive page layouts and flat-style graphic visuals. The training collateral was posted on a Desire2Learn LMS where students were shown how to retrieve content and submit assignments.

  6. ThermoFisher Scientific Logo

    Senior (Managing) Technical Editor

The Burlington site needed a way to generate product information on robotics and laboratory automation systems without raising head-count. Using project–based management and workforce virtualization, I realized a broader skill base and the equivalent work of three full-time positions on one salary. Several custom SharePoint libraries were built for queuing and reporting on project requests.

  7. Morrison Hershfield Canada Logo

    Information Designer

The Human Resources department needed an efficient way to onboard new employees scattered across Canada and the United States prior to training. After researching employment differences and reviewing benefits packages, I designed a new Employee Handbook that consolidated disparate documents in a readable and accessible format. Legacy issues were addressed for continuity with historical references.

  8. CTC Train Canada Logo

    Contract Commercial Trainer

Train Canada needed an instructor to teach business productivity applications to their clients in the GTA. Using the collateral provided, I taught clients to use Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word for 2003 and 2007 to advanced levels. I also taught expert users to work with Acrobat, LiveCycle Designer and FrameMaker for custom applications.

  9. Blueprint Systems Inc. Logo

    Contract Instructional Designer

Blueprint needed help preparing for a major product release, due out in late 2007. To explain requirements modeling, simulation, workflow, and change management concepts built into the software, I developed training workbooks for Business Analysts and Software Testers. Integrated instructions for application, repository and licensing servers on UNIX and Windows platforms were also provided.

  10. ADP Canada Logo

    Technical Content Developer

The eProducts and Payroll Systems departments needed content development services for new and existing products. Using the Microsoft Manual of Style and Madcap Flare software, I restored an on-line help system from legacy code in three months. I also built English and French instructions for a report writer application in help and print formats—three months ahead of schedule.

Scott and I have worked together in different capacities, when I first met him, he worked as a contract writer helping me with various projects. Then he was hired by one of my clients and we continued to work together, he required help with his projects and contacted me for that additional help. Scott is hard-working, honest and reliable, a pleasure to work with.
